How do I lay tile in my ''foyer''

l have a small area in front of my back door that l would like to tile. l

recently ripped up the old linoleum and all l have now is a sub floor. It

other home repairs and remodeling without his help.
l have a wet saw 
for tiles, and all the other tools l believe l might need. But l am 
looking for someone who can give me step by step instructions on how to 
lay the tile down. How to measure, where to start, how to put down the 
tile glue, etc. My knowledge of construction is quite limited. So if 
explained in a simple manner would be appreciated. And a list of the items 
needed to complete this job.
The tiles l will be laying are 12'' 
ceramic tiles (already purchased) and the area is approximatly 3' x 4' . 
There are doorways on each side. Basement door, outside door, bathroom 
door, and an entry way into my kitchen.

You l need 2 sheets 1/2 inch cement board,1 bag white or grey  
muffin top
latex modified thin set. 10# of sanded grout.. Something for a

w/ a 1/4 by 1/4 square notched trowel spread it under the boards. Reset  
board & nail a minimum of 8 inch on center & more on seam..Nail w/ 1  
1/2 inch galvanized roofing nail ( I like to use 2 in..Tape joint w/  
cement board tape. Same or next day dry lay the tile to get biggest pieces  
all around. I like a whole piece where it meets the carpet or the most  
visible edge. Use a 1/4 by 3/8 trowel to set tiles with. Grout 24 hrs
